Conveyor upgrades use mounted units, insert bearings and plummer block housings on head, tail and take-up pulleys, plus tapered roller bearings on heavier drive positions. These bearings face dust, moisture, shaft deflection and frequent start-stop loading. Buyers want the housing style, locking method and insert bearing correctly matched so the units fit without modification.
- Match the insert bearing locking method (set screw, eccentric collar or adapter sleeve) to the shaft and to how often the conveyor reverses.
- Specify the housing style, whether pillow block, flanged or take-up, and the bolt pattern, so the new units fit the existing frame.
- Choose multi-lip or taconite seals for pulleys exposed to fine dust, wet material or washdown.
- For heavier pulley shafts, use spherical roller bearings in split housings to allow for shaft deflection and misalignment.
