Deep groove ball bearings support the shafts in motors, fans, pumps, gear drives and other general machinery wherever radial loads are moderate and speeds are medium to high. In practice the trouble usually comes from contamination, lubricant loss and plain mix-ups between open, shielded and sealed versions of the same base size. Buyers want the exact SKF designation matched first time, including seal, clearance and cage suffixes.
- Pick the closure from the operating environment: -2RS1 contact seals where dust or moisture is present, -2Z shields where low friction and higher speed matter more.
- Confirm the internal clearance suffix (normal or C3) when the shaft runs hot or uses an interference fit, because a wrong clearance can preload the bearing.
- Quote the full designation including the seal, clearance and grease suffixes, because the base number alone does not identify a single bearing.
- For damp, washdown or food-contact positions, state the required seal material and lubricant grade so the replacement suits those conditions.
