Angular contact ball bearings are specified where a shaft carries radial and axial load together, as in spindles, pumps, compressors and precision drives. Performance depends on contact angle, arrangement and preload, so replacing just the base size without the suffixes can change how the whole bearing set behaves. Technical approvers check that the arrangement, precision class and cage type match the original design.
- State the contact angle and the mounting arrangement (back-to-back, face-to-face or tandem) for paired bearings, as these set the load direction and stiffness.
- Specify the preload class and the universal-matching suffix when bearings are ordered as matched sets for spindles or precision drives.
- Confirm the precision class (for example P5 or P4) and the ball material, such as hybrid ceramic balls, for high-speed or low-heat positions.
- For double row designs in pumps and compressors, include the cage and clearance suffixes (such as TN9, C3 or MT33) so the replacement suits the operating temperature.
